A Raid On The Inarticulate was an exhibition curated by Rachel Wooller at St Pancras Gallery in London in November 2018. The exhibition featured site specific work from eight artists to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day. Wooller's work, Uniform, was made for this venue and is a series of 9 cracked mortar columns. Each crack is individual and filled with lead. The piece explores the nature of an army, homogeneous yet composed of individuals, whose flaws and characteristics are essentially human. Playing on the Japanese art of Kintsugi, the embracing of the imperfect by filling cracks in ceramics with gold, each crack in the mortar is filled with lead, a reminder of the deadly nature of war.
